35 Regular Guy Reaches Breaking Point

In this interview, Darren Altman explains how he went from flabby to fit and what his breaking point was to motivate him to change his lifestyle.

He may not be a regular guy in that he is a voice over artist by day and plays drums on stage at night, but he is regular in that he has a wife, child, and a sedentary job.

He is like most people in the modern world whose jobs keep them sedentary for long periods of time.

He is also a regular guy when, after his marriage and child, he found his weight climbing, and climbing - until he almost burst his pants on stage and decided he needed to change.

Darren found fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

Sugar is everywhere. It is hard to eat any processed foods that do not have sugar added.

But, is that a problem? People in Western civilizations are growing obese and less healthy. Is sugar to blame? Many say yes.

The sugar battle rages on. Sugar tastes good, is in "fun" foods, is adored by children and most adults. Grandparents love giving it and because of all that, the food industry puts it in everything.

Meanwhile, many parents are fighting against the sugar forces and doing everything they can to keep sugar out of their children's diet. Who will win this battle?

What can you do?

Many times I have pondered how similar a bike race is to life, and more pointedly, to working toward accomplishing a goal. Goals setting and action has a similar feel as the energy builds, the support, the motivation, the movement, then comes the dips and the difficulties and you either fail (quit) or keep going to the end (win). Even if you didn't actually win (accomplish the original goal), I'll bet you are better off.

In this solo podcast, Glenn shares a tough race and the thoughts that were in his head at the time.

Fast, or rapid, weight loss is tempting. Once you decide you are ready to make a change, you want that change to happen, now. But, this will only result in very short term weight loss and usually a gain of more weight than was lost initially.

15 Dr. Loren Cordain, Paleo Diet for Athletes

One of the forefathers of the paleolithic eating philosophy, Dr. Loren Cordain began this chapter of his life as a quest to improve his own athletic performance. When he read a paper written by Dr. Boyd Eaton about the things that hunter gatherers used to eat based on availability and technology. In this paper he explained that humans have been eating in this manner, with these types of foods for thousands of years, yet we have only been eating agriculturally raised foods such as grains and dairy for about 333 generations - not very long on the evolutionary scale.
